Data Sources/Divisions

Divisions Data

Overture Maps' Divisions dataset offers over 5.5 million global features detailing political and administrative boundaries, including countries, regions, and cities. Structured into points, polygons, and lines, it integrates smoothly with platforms like Atlas for comprehensive mapping and spatial analysis.

Divisions

Overture Maps' Divisions dataset includes over 5.5 million features representing political and administrative areas worldwide. It covers countries, regions, provinces, cities, neighborhoods, and more. The data is organized into three feature types:

  • division: Points marking the central location of a division.
  • division_area: Polygons outlining the land or maritime area of a division.
  • division_boundary: Lines representing shared borders between divisions.

Each feature includes attributes like name (with translations), subtype (e.g., country, region, locality), ISO country and region codes, and parent-child relationships. The dataset also accounts for disputed boundaries by including multiple perspectives where applicable.

You can import Divisions data from Overture Maps directly through Atlas' Overture Maps integration. This allows you to seamlessly incorporate detailed administrative boundaries into your Atlas projects, supporting applications such as reverse geocoding, map rendering, and spatial analysis.
