South Carolina is located on the southeastern coastline of the United States. Its geographical coordinates are approximately 34.0° N latitude and 81.0° W longitude. It shares its borders with two other states: North Carolina to the north and Georgia to the south and west.

South Carolina is noted for its diverse geography. It showcases various scenic landscapes from mountains, plateaus, and of course, beach fronts.
The state covers an area of approximately 32,020 square miles (82,930 km²). This places South Carolina as the 40th largest state in the United States by area.
Topographical Features of South Carolina
South Carolina's geography is divided into three main areas: the Blue Ridge Mountains, Piedmont Plateau, and the Atlantic Coastal Plain. Each of these regions has a unique topography and features.
The Blue Ridge Mountains area is the smallest region, located in the state's northwest corner. It's characterized by beautiful mountains and valleys.
The Piedmont Plateau, sits beneath the Blue Ridge region characterized by rolling hills and fertile lands.
Finally, the Atlantic Coastal Plain is the largest region. It includes low-lying wetlands, beautiful beaches and the state's major cities including its capital, Columbia.
The Coastal Plain is further divided into the Outer and Inner Coastal Plains, based on their proximity to the coastline.
South Carolina Climate
South Carolina's climate can be classified as humid subtropical. The state experiences hot and humid summers with frequent rainfall. In contrast, winters are mild, but can get colder in the Upstate area due to its higher altitude.
