Toolbar

Exploring the Toolbar in Atlas

The toolbar in Atlas is your go-to control panel for creating and managing map elements. It’s packed with tools that let you draw shapes, add annotations, manage layers, and more.

In this lesson, we’ll walk through each toolbar feature to show you how to create custom data, mark up your maps with annotations, and refine your work using undo and redo. By the end, you’ll have all the tools you need to bring your maps to life and collaborate effectively.

🔤 Changing Your Project Name

At the top left of the toolbar, you’ll see your project name. To rename it:

  • Double-click the project name.
  • Enter your desired name and hit enter.

It’s that simple to keep your projects organized!

✏️ Drawing Tools

The toolbar also gives you the ability to create your own data using drawing tools. Here’s how:

  1. Select a Geometry Type
Choose from polygons, lines, points, or circles to start drawing on your map.

  2. Drawing a Polygon

    • Place the first point on the map.
    • Each time you add another point, Atlas will measure the distance between them.
    • Continue adding points until your shape is complete.
    • Double-click to finish the polygon.
  3. Layer Management

    • To add shapes to the same layer, keep the layer active and draw your next shape.
    • To start a new layer, select a new location and begin creating a new shape.
  4. Adding Points
When adding points to a layer, hit Enter once you’re done to finalize the layer.

🖍️ Annotations

Annotations are perfect for marking up your map without creating new layers. These features always appear on top of the map.

Here’s what you can do with annotations:

  • Marker: Freehand draw on your map.
  • Highlighter: Highlight specific areas or elements.
  • Text: Add labels or explanations directly on the map.
  • Notes: Use notes to emphasize important points—great for collaboration!
  • Media Integration: Add images, links, embeds, or videos to enrich your map.

↩️ Undo and Redo

Made a mistake or changed your mind? Use the Undo and Redo buttons to backtrack or redo any action on the map.

That’s it for this lesson! The toolbar is packed with tools to help you create, annotate, and collaborate on maps effortlessly. Explore these features, and I’ll see you in the next lesson!
