Exploring Map Tools in Atlas
The map tools in Atlas provide essential features to customize your view, find locations, and analyze distances. Located in the lower corners of the map, these tools allow you to zoom, switch basemaps, measure routes, and more.
In this lesson, we’ll explore how to use the map tools to enhance your workflow. From pinpointing locations to enabling 3D views, these features give you full control over how you interact with your map.

Locate Yourself
Use the location button to pinpoint your exact position on the map. -
Zoom In and Out
Adjust your view with the zoom controls to focus on specific areas or see the bigger picture. -
Map Settings
Map settings let you customize how your map looks and behaves:- Change the Basemap: Select a light, dark, or satellite view depending on your needs.
- Switch Projections: Move from the flat canvas (Mercator mode) to a globe view for a more realistic Earth representation.
- Enable 3D Mode: Add depth to your map by toggling the 3D mode.

Search for Locations
Enter a specific place in the search bar, and the map will navigate there.- Example: Type “Oslo,” and the map will zoom directly to the city.

Measure Distances and Routes
Use the route tool to measure distances and travel times:- Select a starting point and an endpoint.
- Choose a transportation method (e.g., walking, driving).
- Double-click the endpoint to see the total distance and estimated travel time.
- Press Escape to exit the measurement tool.
