Before we begin
Water resource management is crucial for balancing development and sustainability, particularly for countries like Norway, where dams and reservoirs play a central role. Understanding the distribution and attributes of these structures at a district level is key to effective planning and decision-making.
While raw data on dams and reservoirs is abundant, making it actionable requires structuring it to reveal patterns and insights, such as district-level capacities and areas. This Blueprint focuses on transforming scattered data into meaningful, district-focused summaries.
What you can do with this Blueprint:
- Summarize the number, capacity, and area of dams within each district.
- Create district-level reports to inform water resource planning.
- Visualize dam and reservoir data using thematic maps.
- Analyze patterns to support sustainable infrastructure development.
Create project and upload data
If you’re already a user, navigate to the workspace dashboard. If not, create a free account.
Upload the datasets in the free resources section.
Summarize points within polygons
You'll use the Spatial Aggregation tool to summarize information about all dams within each district.
Create centroids to represent the count of hydro power plants
You'll use the centroid tool to represent the information about all dams within each district as a point.
Symbolize the results
Now that you have the information you need summarized by district, you'll use proportional symbols to visualize your results and produce some maps for your report.
