The Routes Tool in Atlas allows you to measure distances and estimated travel times between multiple points on a map. Whether you’re planning trips, analyzing transportation options, or estimating delivery times, this tool makes it quick and easy.
You can access the Routes Tool from the lower-left corner of the map interface, where other measurement tools are located.
Step 1: Open the Routes Tool
- Log in to Atlas: Open your web browser and log in to Atlas.
- Open a Map: Either create a new project or open an existing map.
- Find the Routes Tool:
- Look at the lower-left corner of the map interface.
- Click the Routes Tool icon to start measuring.
Step 2: Choose a Route Type
Before measuring, select how you want to calculate the route:
- Straight Line: Measures the direct distance between points.
- Walking: Calculates pedestrian-friendly paths.
- Cycling: Finds the best bike-friendly routes.
- Driving: Plans car routes using road networks.
- Transit: Estimates travel using public transportation (where available).
💡 Each option provides both the exact distance and an estimated travel time based on real-world conditions.
Step 3: Measure a Route

Click to Set Start and End Points
- Click anywhere on the map to set the starting point.
- Double-click to set the destination.
- The tool will calculate the route and display the total distance and estimated travel time.

Add Multiple Stops (Optional)
- Click additional locations to extend your route.
Step 4: Save and Style Your Route

Save the Route as a Dataset
- Click Save as Dataset to store the route in your project.
- The route will be saved as a layer containing points (waypoints) and a line (route path).

- Open Standard Styling to customize the appearance:
- Points: Adjust size, color, or labels for waypoints.
- Line (Outline): Change thickness and color for better visibility.
